Please join us and our friends at CRAG Law Center in kicking off HRVRC’s 40th year of protecting the place we love, with a night of 10 short films about wild places and the women who love them.
We are especially excited to present the premiere screening of Maiden of the Mountain directed by Trip Jennings and Ralph Bloemers. The film tells the inspirational story of the life and work of local conservationist giant and HRVRC co-founder, Kate McCarthy.
The proceeds of the film night go towards Kate’s most personal project, the Mt. Hood/Cooper Spur Land Trade. For the last 15 years, HRVRC and CRAG Law Center have worked to bring Wilderness protection to thousands of acres on the north side of Mt. Hood. The US Forest Service and Mt. Hood Meadows are getting closer to completing the trade that is Kate’s legacy to us all.

Humans construct boundaries — around our homes, our neighborhoods, and our nations — to bring order to a chaotic world. But we rarely consider how these boundaries affect other creatures. Meet conservation photographer Krista Schlyer, who has spent the last seven years documenting the environmental effects of the U.S./Mexico border wall, and biologist Jon Beckmann, who studies how man-made barriers influence the movement of wildlife.

Allison Gannet: A Move Shake Story – Directed by Alexandra Bombach
Alison Gannett is a renowned professional skier who understands the connection between the environment and outdoor pursuits. Heading up three nonprofits, including Save Our Snow, she also runs a 75-acre farm in Paonia, Colorado, She is unnerved, however, when the land she nurtures is threatened by natural gas interests. What you see in this short film is a woman who sustains passion and optimism, even as her immediate surroundings face potential destruction.
The End of Snow – Day’s Edge Productions
This film follows a female scientist, Jane Kelikova through the American West on her quest to find out what would happen if we had no more snow. It’s a lighthearted film meant to inspire people to think about our collective actions and introduce people that are helping the fight against climate change in the region.
