Volunteer Opportunities for Thrive Hood River
“Heroes are not giant statues framed against a red sky.
They are people who say: This is my community, and it is my responsibility to make it better.”
– Gov. Tom McCall, one of the founders of Oregon’s land use system.
Make our community better today: We run on people power!
Our work is accomplished by a dedicated and diverse group of volunteers.
Nobody knows our county better than the people who call it home,
and we would love your help.
Advocacy
- Sign a petition, attend public meetings or hearings, speak at an event, appear in a video, talk with legislators, or staff the Thrive table at a community gathering.
- Write articles or take pictures featuring local events, success stories, or initiatives that promote community engagement. Some may appear in our monthly newsletter.
- Write letters to the editor. Share your perspectives in local publications by advocating for community needs and initiatives. Be on call to write on a specific topic or angle as directed by our advocacy team.
- Assist Thrive Hood River in seeking funding by crafting compelling grant proposals that support our mission.
- Visit and photograph planned and existing developments to ensure compliance with state and county law.
Activism
- Lead a project. If you have the passion and commitment to drive a land use related initiative, Thrive can help make it happen.
- Become a Board member. It is the synergy created by the diverse skills and knowledge of individual Board members and staff that has made Thrive so influential since 1977.
Research and Monitoring
- Understanding land use law and analyzing permit applications requires an analytical mind and benefits from long experience. If you enjoy making a case and solving logic puzzles, ask about joining Thrive’s Monitoring and Enforcement Committee.
