Our Work

The Hood River Valley remains an incredibly desirable place to live and it takes people who care to keep it THRIVING. Whether we’re preventing sprawl into our farm lands, opposing destination resorts on Mt. Hood’s wild side or applying sound land use and smart growth practices to keep our urban and rural communities vibrant – it all takes planning, vision, and citizen participation which is the very core of the Oregon Land Use system.

Farmland

Hood River County is a resource land gem with rich volcanic soils, pure glacier water, cool nights and warm growing days. Sustaining this critical piece of our local “land use puzzle” takes careful monitoring and staying the course so that our working landscapes stay productive.

Forests

We are committed to protecting forests and fostering resilient woodlands. Our actions include promoting compliance with regulations, reviewing applications, and monitoring existing permits.

Wild Places

We are surrounded by extraordinary wild places created by powerful geologic forces over millennia. Snow-capped volcanoes, raging rivers, rich flora and fauna. But even the most special places are never fully protected. They need need people who care to preserve and protect them.

Livability

A livable community is a place that is great for people of all ages and life stages to live, work, and play. The built environment impacts so much of things that add up to our quality of life. We are working hard to make sure Hood River becomes more livable —and lovable— as it grows.
